The Matrix Foundation offers
Professional Communications Certification

Welcome to the Matrix Foundation’s Professional Communications Certification Program that offers you the opportunity to become a CCP, Certified Communications Professional. Here’s how you can achieve certification. Your efforts on and off the job earn points, as explained in the following list. The requirement for certification is a total of 3,000 points – 1,500 points from professional and volunteer activities and 1,500 points from education activities. You probably already are part way to your goal because you may count activities of the past five years as well as those you perform for three years after you begin this program.

Points can be earned for such activities as managing a successful communications campaign, designing a web site, producing a video, chairing a committee, serving as president of a local communications group, attending a seminar or completing an online course, to cite just a few examples. The following pages explain the point system in detail.

The program has been approved by the national AWC Board of Directors, endorsed by the University of Washington Department of Communications and is open to anyone who has been employed in any area of communications for two of the last five years at the time of application. Applicant must also be a member of a recognized professional communications organization at the time of application and maintain membership while completing the program.

Features include:

  • Certification as a professional communicator
  • Flexible program to accommodate individual career paths and professional development needs
  • Open to all communicators
  • Opportunity to demonstrate achievements and enhance employment/client potential
  • Special rates for AWC members
